A Time to Store "a Loaf of Bread"
July 21, 2002
Steve, I'm sending this but obviously would like to remain anonymous. This dream was originally written about by Stan and Holly when they had their newsletter. I've had many prophetic dreams but most were a specific direction for our family when we were to make a move. However, I do know this dream was prophetic because part of it came true already!
In the dream, I was with my family in a small basement room where we lived at the time. Through the windows, we could see a terrible storm going on. This was not your usual storm but had intense lightening. It was as if the atmosphere was made up of lightening! The Lord told me a terrible storm was coming and the only food we would have is what we were obedient to store. In My dream, we didn't have any so we all went out into the storm to purchase food. The shelves were bare when we got there, except for one loaf of white bread. Usually we don't purchase white bread but did in the dream. In the dream we arrive home safely but all there is to eat is that one loaf of white bread. My son was holding it (at the time he was about ten years old) and I saw the loaf of bread glowing. I got the impression it not only represented bread as we know it but also the Bread of the Word. He told me I must teach my children His Word or they would be like that white bread...devoid of the nutrients they need. He once again told me that the only food I'd be able to have is what I stored. That I had to be obedient.
Then I got the impression that this dream was in two parts...one storm more immediate, the other later. This dream was so real I couldn't get it out of my mind. I figured the "storm" He warned about was Y2k related as this was in 1999. I was diligent about storing extra food, usually by buying extra each time I went to the grocery store. What actually happened was a job loss for my husband immediately followed by a time of illness. We ended up having no income whatsoever for a very long time. Although it was an extreme financial hardship, we did have enough to eat. When my husband was finally able to work again, we had to move out of that town to take another job. I had enough food left to give plenty to the food bank.
I learned a lot about what to store and what not to store for our family! The most important thing I learned is to store what we are used to eating, not what is on someone elses list. Just because beans store well does not make my children like them.
Now for the second part...a few months ago I began to hear from the Lord that it was once again time to put back extra food. He warned me each family should have at least two weeks worth of food and water in case they could not go outside. I believe some people will be led to store much more (as we did before). I also heard Him say those who have the financial means to do more should lay aside food and other necessities for those friends and relatives they know would be unable to do so. This will be a way they will be able to reach their loved ones for Christ in difficult days.
He also showed me the gift of hospitality will be a way many will be led to the Lord. The suffering will be so great that unbelievers will long to know peace. As believers, we will be able to open our home and minister to people...along with coffee, tea, etc. Warmhearted ministry to others! At the same time, He has shown me so many of His people have gone through terrible tribulations in their own lives and He has been faithful so they have a testimony to those who will be suffering. They have known Him already as the giver of their provision and peace in the storm. Those who have been faithful, those who have not given up even when the trials were difficult, will be those who will bring great comfort in the times to come. He has been preparing them "for such a time as this".
Although the storm represented financial and health hardships in the first dream, I believe it is possible it also represents a very real storm. Something in the atmosphere that will make it difficult (or impossible) for people to get out of their homes for awhile.
I ran this past my former pastor (we have not found a church here, yet) and two friends who both hear from the Lord. All three believe this is from the Lord. Both my friends have been led to once again deepen their family's pantry.
